It's here!

Tonight just as Jack and I were finishing dinner a rather late father arrived home. He said there was someone at the front door and that needed to come in...I knew what he was up to but played along and when I opened the door lo and behold there was my new bike! Jack was so excited he ran around the room and got his bike. It is sad that we have to ride our bikes inside because it is still snowy, wet and cold outside.
I have waited years for this day where I am healthy enough to get into cycling. I still remember Jason taking me on a bike ride when we were dating and I thought wow this is great when you get tired you can just coast. That was the day I said good bye to my running days...I think I have put in my miles with cross country and long distance track. I am excited to get back into that kind of shape!
If you can't tell in this picture I am sad....I want to go but too cold and snowy......so I wear my helmet and look at the snowy ground. That helped.

and defiantly too cold out for these white legs...I don't think purple is a good color for them.

So you will all have to hold out for pictures of me in my short spandex shorts, jersey and racing gloves.....See another reason to look forward to warmer weather here in Utah!

my energy is dwindling...

My energy is dwindling...

So this is what I had to resort to when I put Jack down today. A hostess cupcake, a chocolate mint brownie cookie and a cherry coke. I have really low energy on a daily basis but by the weekend I feel totally wiped. All I have to say is recovering from a bone marrow transplant and taking care of a two year old doesn't mix. Thank goodness for chocolate....I think I will indulge on another cookie. Happy weekend!

a nap..only when he says it's so

Today I was struggling to get Jack to take his nap. I had to go in multiple times to put him back in bed and put away the toys that he could reach. Finally after an hour of crying and asking for his binkie I let him out...he was not going down. He was playing in the office and found his binkie he put it in his mouth and started playing on his bike..then he got frustrated and started to whine and cry and carry on. I told him this is why we take naps so we are not so cranky. I walked out of the room and the next thing I hear is the door closing to his room. I finished folding the laundry and then went to go check on him and this is what I found. Jack totally asleep. I guess he decided that he did need a nap so he went to his room and tucked himself in. A great lesson on toddlerhood....they will do things without a fight only if it is on their own terms!

This is Jack enjoying the breeze from the open windows
These are my eggs sitting in their color baths....
This is me making my eggs pretty colors
This is Jack (with his black eye still...it is getting better but it has been a week already) examining the newly dyed eggs. I hope he is interested in blowing them out with me later......

This is the consequence of wonderful spring weather...and I'm in LOVE!

March Madness Has Begun

This is the scene at our house this afternoon...and probably till the end of March Madness. Jack wants to play all the time. He requests his jersey to wear and for his hoop to be brought into the living room so he can watch the basketball and play. He did not even take his nap today because he was so hyped up, oh man talk about madness.

We also got a new camera today...hooray! It is so nice to have a camera that has a short delay and I can finally get good pictures of Jack even when he is on the move! I love it! Also a shout out to the Aggies tomorrow. Jason is skipping school and we are going to have a little watching party with Seth tomorrow! Jack can't wait, thank goodness the game is in the morning!

On a totally different note here is what I have been baking this week. Well I made no bake cookies...yes as said in the name of the cookies...there was actually no baking but Jason requested them, homemade donut holes and key lime pie.

Happy Birthday Cami

Happy Birthday to my dear sister Cami! She has been such a lifesaver these last couple of years taking care of me and my family. One good thing that has come out of my sickness was the strengthening of our relationship. We came so close and she truly showed me the true meaning of charity. I love you my dear sister, you mean the world to me! I wish you a very Happy Birthday you deserve it!

The Competition

Jason has a new love...he brought it home this morning...his new red cannondale super six. I officially have some competition. All I have to say to you Jason is...will your new love make you cookies?
Here is a picture of my second attempt with my baking experiments. They turned out rather well I think. These are Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies. And yes that is the new bike lurking in the background. I do have to say though, Jason's bike came in last night but instead of staying after work to build it he took me on a date. That is the ultimate act of love!

Snow Day

I will not be baking today...we woke up to this... and it is still snowing. I am not going out in this.

My Baking Goal

Today I decided to improve a skill that I have been lacking in....baking. Don't get me wrong I can make the typical chocolate cookies and muffins and cakes..but for the most part I am not a good baker. I don't know what it is..so I thought practice makes perfect. So tonight I pulled out a cookbook my mom sent me after a conversation on how I needed a hobby to help me during my recovery. Being the wonderful mom she is she suggested that I baked and that way I would be busy and I could also give away the cookies to my friends and neighbors to forget myself and to reconnect with those I feel like I have lost contact with while I was sick. That conversation was a couple of months ago but my mother was my inspiration of this new goal. I am going to bake my little heart out.
Tonight I made lemon poppy seed crisps, a little tribute to spring. I followed the recipe step by step. I was feeling pretty confident but when the timer sounded my hopes were dashed. They were just a big pile of cookie. I got upset and was exclaiming to my dear husband that here was proof of why I did not bake. In a kind and calming voice he told me that this was why I was going to do more of it to get better and that I would learn. Then he suggested I do an easier recipe next time. I thought that was an easy one...! So tomorrow I am going to the store to stock my pantry with the baking essentials and try again. I also decided that I will post about each cooking experience so that I can track my own progress and also maybe give some hope to those people like me who may be struggling with baking...that it can be overcome...or at least I will find the recipes that make us non-bakers look like bakers!

If you would like this recipe just let me know and I can email it to you...they were good if you are a lemon fan...it has fresh lemon zest in them which really bring out the lemon flavor.

a foreshadowing of what is to come.

Tonight we experienced a tiny moment of what our lives are going to be full of come May...good byes. Tonight was our last Aggie basketball game in the Spectrum. It was a bittersweet night. It may seem silly but at the end of the game with the band playing the familiar Scotsman I started to cry. I have love going to the basketball games in the Spectrum and many thoughts went through my head of what has happened there the last couple of years. It was here that I saw Jason fresh off his mission and we had our first post mission awkward conversation. I went as a single student to a married student to a pregnant student. A barely there hair recovering transplant patient...to a mother to a two year old who loves to do the actions to all the cheers. I have loved watching Jason get so nervous that his has to sit down so he doesn't faint and hearing him yell at the bad calls. Riding up to the games with Pat and Seth and Jack chattering to us all the way there. Hearing the roaring Aggie crowd and the genius chants!I know tonight was not my last game I will see in the Spectrum but tonight was the "first" last thing we have to say good bye to. It pulled at my heart strings but all I have to say is thanks for all the memories Utah State Basketball you have been good to us all.

* Today (Mon)My dad told me that my waxing of nostalgia was a little strong...so sorry if this post was a little full of drama...needless to say I hate good byes in any form.

Thank you Grandma Pat!

I was taking pictures of the quilt Pat made for Jack and I thought that I would post some pictures of the amazing quilt. My mother in-law Pat has made some amazing quilts. I saw a picture of a car quilt in a pottery barn kids catalog and fell in love and I knew Jack would fall in love with it as well. I showed the picture to Pat and she duplicated it for us. I think it looks better than the one in the catalog and Jack loves it as well. He has been so curious as to why Grandma was always sewing cars when he was over to her house. When he saw the completed project for the first time he was a very happy boy. He loves to lay on it and spout off all the names of the all the vehicles that are one it. Thank you Pat, we will always cherish this great quilt (and all the other great quilts you have made for us) You truly are very talented.
