Halloween Costumes 2010

Jack wanted to be a skeleton this year so I went as a Mama Skeleton. Face paint like his as well. That was sure was interesting..meeting and talking to people in face paint all night at the trunk or treat. But isn't that what a mother does for her child? It's all about sacrifice.

Halloween Fun

We carved pumpkins as a family for the first time ever! Even Jason and I hadn't carved them out together.
I think we finally did it this year because Jack was able to get involved. He helped draw the face the hair and even made ears with wax in them. Then he was telling us the pumpkin had a spine and so on. It was quite something.

Once we cut it open Jack said it looked like brains and did not like the smell
So Jason got out one of his masks, a cap and gloves and did some surgery.
He got tired and let Dad take over. He was an awesome pumpkin cleaner outer.
The finished products. Jackson's cute little pumpkin and we turned our big one into a candy dispenser for trunk or treat.

Another first, this year Jason dressed up not once but three times! At the office they had theme days this week. So this week Jason saw patients as a Cowboy and on Friday he dressed up as a Chilean Miner. Using his old Kennecott hard hat and he had a little Chilean flag in his pocket and sunglasses. I didn't get a picture because it was enough that he even dressed up I didn't want to push it. He also was a doctor with us at the Trunk or Treat.  It made me smile because he got in trouble for NOT dressing up the other days.  He had to get into the dress up Halloween spirit. One of my favorite things of Halloween this year.

G and H Week

I combined G and H week not only because of Halloween but because we get to go on a vacation next week! Another Brenchley wedding this year this time we get to go to Indiana! Next week needs to be devoted to getting things ready for that and combining these two letters was perfect for this week.
G and H are for
We also made some great gifts for the grandparents. Hope you all got your Halloween cards! Jack came up with them all up on his own and personalized them all himself.
Jack is a Happy Spider
Jack's Halloween Hat!
Halloween Houses..which Jack reassured me that were NOT haunted.
We finished the week off with our very own Halloween party. We sang fun Halloween songs, and read Halloween books. We made ghost and witches hat cookies and watched a Halloween movie
What a busy week. Halloween was fun especially with all of Jack's crafts decorating the apartment I am ready to move onto my most favorite holiday Thanksgiving! There are some fun ideas out there for decorating the Thanksgiving table!

A little taste of Fall

I cannot believe in less than a week it will be November. I say this every month but wow times flies and it is hard to keep track of the seasons here in Florida. We are headed to Indiana next week for Jake's wedding I have been pulling out and washing my sweaters and pants. It felt so odd when it still gets into the high 80's. This weekend got me more into the Fall spirit though. All month  I saw signs for a fall festival on the drive from our house to mom and dads. So Saturday morning mom and I took Jack to check it out. When I think fall festival I think of all the ones we hit in Utah...hayrides to pick your pumpkin, boxes filled with dried corn, corn and hay mazes hot apple cider and donuts. Nothing like what we found here. (I know, I know Cami just what you are thinking... you can't have everything in paradise.) We left after only about 10 min  Jack was disappointed but we promised him we would take him to a pumpkin patch we see every week on our way home from church to pick out his pumpkin. Luckily this was a wonderful pumpkin patch that did not disappoint.
Jack had a hard time choosing there were so many just his size.
Jack contemplating which pumpkin to choose.
All three of us found just the right one. Jack also helped me fill a bag full of little gourds. Which he held all the way home.
Jack among all the pumpkins.
I swear he comes up with all these poses himself.

Then today as I was sitting in Jack's room I looked out the window and this is what I saw!
A pretty tree changing colors and not because it was dead!  Oh a little reminder of what fall is. I was all excited and took Jack over to the window exclaiming something like "look at that REAL tree with the changing leaves"! "Remember when all the tress in Utah did that?"
What a wonderful discovery that was, it made my day.

F Week

This week we did a lot of fun crafts. Jack seemed to like them and he usually is not interested so this was a nice and happy surprise.  The crafts are usually trashed or discarded after a week or so and I cannot store all of them so I thought how handy picture documentation is. Here is what we did for F week.
F is for
This kid loves his dress up, always a must!
Made with Jackson's very own Fingerprints.
We made Fun Pumpkin
Then a Friendly
We made Ghosts out of Jack's
We made it Fancy with a Fingerprint Frame.
I put those hands to work and  we made some spiders out of
Funny not Frightful...Fantastic!

Our tree also got a face lift. It is ready for
The only tree with leaves like this in Florida!

(Yeah I am a dork for using and accenting so many F words but I have been using them all week and they are in my head.)

Why? Questions and Reminders.

Why is it that after we have a great weekend we have a horrible start to the week? Every time without fail. Yesterday was one of those days because of our big day Saturday. The culprits were my body and Jack. My body protested the weekend early Monday morning and persisted through the day. Oh to feel my age. It is so funny how the very treatments that saved my life have put a definite strain on my body. It is a battle every day with it...and also with Jackson. Is this how having a four year old in going to be? We are not even a month into his fourth year and he battles with me over everything.  I was talking to my mom about my woes and she remarked that she remembered those days and empathized but then later she talked about how she misses us being little. The same scenario with Jack like unto my body takes affect. He in one of the things that brings me great joy in my life but has that side effect that sucks the energy and patience out of me.
So is this how I am going to feel when Jack isn't little anymore? Just like I long for my young healthy body. I didn't know how good I had it till I didn't have it anymore. How I took it for granted. Will it really be like that?
Will I long for days like yesterday? Jack went on a rampage and made his room a disaster zone after I had spent all the energy I had just to get through the tower of laundry and do the simple household chores that shouldn't have taken that many hours to stop and help or encourage him to clean it up. I had nothing left. Then the temper tantrums the slamming doors, nap and food refusals  the spitting (that's new) and just the stubborn attitude. The night ending with a failed FHE and me in tears? No I will not long for days like that but it is only because those bad days will have been washed away by the good days which is a great thing but I am just putting this out there. A humble reminder to myself, all days were not sunny and bright. So when I look back and long for these days just a little reminder of what happened in between those sunny days. Because if I long for these days in future years like I long for my old body this will be a well needed and comforting reminder.
Just a portion of the disaster zone in Jack's room.

The First of our Florida Fall Celebrations

We got our "fall" fix with some Halloween fun at Sea World on Saturday. Sea World was decorated so cute with a Halloween sea theme of course. We had the cutest Cowboy along with us that had a blast seeing fun things and getting candy.
Our first stop was to the Sesame Street Halloween show.
I took a picture of the set because it was so darling. Pumpkins carved like some Sesame street characters.
We Learned some fun Halloween songs and watched all the characters dance.
We were then off to do some trick or treating.
I had Jack stand in front of most of the big things to take a picture they were so cute.

We took a break and bought a cookie kit. Where we decorated a pumpkin shaped sugar cookie. Jack was even nice enough to share with his parents.
Then it was off to see some shows. The Dolphin show is one of our favorites. It was so great that at the end of the performance Jack tipped his hat to the dolphins and trainers! It was hilarious.
Then we got up and close with sea creatures in an aquarium we had never been to at the park.
That's an octopus, it was creepy...and cool.

It was a fun day out in the wonderful fall weather with the boys. I love the weekend!

E Week

E is For
Jack got creative with this.
I was thinking just the ears but he asked where the trunk was so we figured one out.
Jack is pointing to where we live on the Earth. Thank goodness Florida is easy to draw and identify because this was the extent of my drawing skills.

D Week

D is For
We played pin the tail on the donkey he did pretty well until I tried on the blindfold and noticed that if it was not all the way down resting on your nose you can totally see everything. I didn't say anything though he was pretty proud of his  blindfolded accuracy.
We took a trip to the donut shop near Nana's school and had a little treat with her.
which had this perfect D
We also did a lot of what Jack is good at..... driving (his little cars) and dancing. A whole lot of it!
